Go from Divemaster to certified PADI Instructor at a 5-Star Instructor Development Center — led by a Gold Course Director, built around weekends, and finished at the water's edge in Florida.

 1 · Your Path — One Journey, Your Pace

The Instructor Development Course is really two halves. Take them one at a time — earn your Assistant Instructor rating, then come back and finish with the Open Water Scuba Instructor course — or do the complete IDC in one run. Either way, you finish ready to sit the PADI Instructor Examination and teach.

  • Assistant Instructor — First half · 4 weekends — $1,750 Start teaching under a certified instructor's supervision. Do it on its own and finish later.
  • Open Water Scuba Instructor — Second half · 4 weekends — $1,750 Complete your instructor training and qualify for the IE. For candidates who've already earned their AI.
  • The Full IDC — Both halves, straight through · 8 weekends — $2,500 (+ one-time $1,450 PADI crew-pak) From Divemaster to instructor-ready, at the best value.

Good to know: The crew-pak is a one-time purchase — start with Assistant Instructor and continue to the full IDC, and you don't pay for it again. The PADI Instructor Examination (about $1,000) is scheduled and run by PADI at the exam site and is paid separately.

 2 · Go Further — Round Out Your Instructor Toolkit

Two additions turn a new instructor into a hire-anywhere professional:

  • DAN DFA Pro Instructor — +$499 with your IDC ($799 on its own) An emergency-care instructor rating is required for the IE anyway — bundle it, and you're set. Teach CPR, first aid, emergency oxygen, and neurological assessment to divers and non-divers alike.
  • MSDT Prep — $1,800 After the IE, become a Master Scuba Diver Trainer — five specialty instructor ratings (Deep, Enriched Air, Navigation + two electives, plus a free sixth) that make you far more marketable.

 3 · How It Runs — Weekends, Then the Water

  • Weekend-based schedule. Classroom knowledge development and pool sessions run on weekends — designed to fit around a working life.
  • Open water at Blue Water Park. Your in-water teaching evaluations happen at Blue Water Park, and we rent a cabin on site so the whole crew trains, stays, and preps together.
  • Timed to your exam. Each course finishes about a month before an available PADI Instructor Examination — so you roll from training straight into the IE.

 4 · Your Instructor — Led by a Gold Course Director

Your IDC is led by David "Sunny" Sundberg, a PADI Gold Course Director with the full slate of specialty instructor credentials — one of the most experienced instructor-trainers in the region, holding you to the standard that makes 20,000 Leagues grads stand out.

 5 · Before You Enroll — The Details

  • Prerequisite: PADI Divemaster (or equivalent) in good standing, with the logged dives and experience PADI requires for instructor training. Not there yet? Ask us about our Divemaster program.
  • What you'll need: Your own personal dive equipment, the PADI crew-pak materials, and the separate PADI IE fee. We'll walk you through all of it before you enroll.
