MSDT Prep takes newly certified Open Water Scuba Instructors and turns them into well-rounded, highly marketable professionals, ready to teach a full menu of PADI specialties. Earn your five specialty instructor ratings, certify 25 divers, and you hold one of the most respected credentials in recreational diving.

Deep Diver

Take students beyond 18 metres with the skills and planning to do it safely.

Enriched Air (Nitrox)

The most requested specialty in diving: longer bottom times, shorter surface intervals.

Underwater Navigation

Turn divers into confident navigators who always find their way back.

How it runs at 20K

Every MSDT candidate trains in the three core specialties employers ask for most, then chooses two electives: Wreck, Night, Dry Suit, Search and Recovery, Sidemount, DPV, Drift, Boat, Equipment Specialist, Emergency Oxygen, Self-Reliant, Full Face Mask, Digital Photography and more. Complete five and your sixth elective is on us. The program is built around our IDC calendar, so you can run it before or after an IDC.

  • Current PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (or higher) in good standing
  • Specialty diver certifications for the ratings you choose (we'll help you complete any you still need along the way)
  • For the MSDT rating itself: five specialty instructor ratings plus 25 PADI certifications issued

Is MSDT Prep the same as the MSDT rating?

MSDT Prep earns you the specialty instructor ratings. You receive the MSDT rating once you have also certified 25 divers.

Does MSDT lead anywhere else?

Yes. MSDT is required for IDC Staff Instructor and for PADI Public Safety Diver Instructor.
