Advanced Open Water Diver
PADI Advanced Open Water Diver builds on what you learned in Open Water. Make five Adventure Dives with an instructor, try new kinds of diving, and get certified to 100 feet. It’s less about tests and more about diving.

Every Adventure Dive is a taste of a specialty. You learn the knowledge through PADI eLearning, then go out and put it to work with your instructor.
Deep dive
Required. Plan and make a dive past 60 feet, manage your air and see how depth affects you and your gear.
Underwater navigation
Required. Find your way with a compass and natural landmarks, and get back to where you started.

Questions
Can I take it right after Open Water?
Yes. No extra experience is needed. Many divers sign up right after their Open Water checkout.
Is there a test?
No final exam. You complete knowledge reviews in eLearning, and the rest is diving.
Why does the dive price vary?
Each elective has different needs. A boat or wreck dive costs more than a local lake dive, and some electives need special gear. We’ll quote your dives once you pick your electives.
How deep can I go after?
100 feet (30 meters). Add the Deep Diver specialty to go to 130 feet, the recreational limit.
Does it count toward specialties?
Yes. Each Adventure Dive can be credited as the first dive of the matching PADI Specialty course.
