PADI Rescue Diver

This is the course where you stop thinking about just your own dive — and start noticing everything happening around you underwater.

PADI Rescue Diver is widely considered one of the most rewarding certifications you can earn. It's not about fear — it's about confidence. You'll learn to spot and prevent problems before they start, manage stress (yours and everyone else's), and handle real emergencies calmly and effectively. Divers who take this course often say it fundamentally changes how they dive, for the better.

Prerequisites

• PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another agency)
• Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care training within the last 24 months (or equivalent CPR/first aid training — this can be completed alongside Rescue Diver if needed)
• 12 years or older (12–14-year-olds earn Junior Rescue Diver)
• Good physical health, as with any PADI course

What the Course Looks Like

Rescue Diver combines classroom learning, confined-water practice, and open-water scenarios. You'll work through self-rescue and buddy-rescue techniques, emergency management, and problem-solving exercises that build progressively — starting with recognizing minor issues and working up to full missing-diver and emergency response scenarios.
