Paradise as it was intended! Set out over the turquoise Caribbean waters of Utila Bay, Utila Lodge is the perfect place for whatever you’re looking for in a vacation. We can be your relaxing getaway, we can be your home for a week of great diving, and we can be your home during a week of high adventure. Utila is situated on the Mesoamerican reef system which is the 2nd largest barrier reef system in the world, only second to the Great Barrier Reef. Diving and land adventures are legendary on this small island, one of the 3 bay islands of Honduras.

Besides Diving, enjoy a wide range of activities from hiking, bird watching, kayaking, flats & deep sea fishing, horseback trails, Whale shark excursions, spelunking a fresh water cave, exploring the back country by ATV or simply cruising on a sunset sail, relaxing in a hammock with a good book, or snorkeling off an uninhabited cay. At Utila Lodge we ensure you’ll be able to take full advantage of the natural beauty of the sandy beaches, sparkling waters, lush tropical interior.

Steps from your front door in East Harbor, the Caribbean vibe, accented with the melodic tones of ‘Island Speak’, mixes with an eclectic blend of languages from Utila’s international travel scene. East Harbor provides a great place to wonder through small gift shops, ice cream parlors, funky artistic hotels, and historic buildings. At night the flavors of the island come together at the local watering holes for some lively entertainment, and some unbelievable fish stories!

With a reputation for world-class coral reef diving, it is no wonder Utila attracts divers from the far reaches of the globe. As part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world, Utila enjoys spectacular turquoise water, abundant sea-life and outstanding coral reefs.

Sloping walls on our South side, sheer drop offs on our North, wreck diving and sea mounds just minutes from our harbor, provide you endless diving opportunities. Being centrally located, Utila Lodge is able to provide access to Utila’s entire repertoire of great dive sites.

And let’s not forget the largest fish in the sea! Our whale sharks!

Utila has long been known as a “hot-spot” for Whale Shark activity due to it’s proximity to the Continental Shelf and strong upwelling currents.  Their natural migratory and feeding patterns means that these gentle giants are a year round sight here in Utila.  Peak season (February-July) is well known for providing more frequent and consistent sightings.

The Whale Shark & Oceanic Research Center (WSORC) operates one of the few, year-round whale shark monitoring and research centers in the world. Their devoted staff of scientists and volunteers works tirelessly at maintaining and restoring the aquatic environment of Honduras, while continuing the standards of ethical research which have made WSORC the authority on Utila’s whale shark population and coral reef ecosystem for the past 10 years.
